…now what shall I do with these @johncmayer concert tickets?
Oh my! Everyone’s so much in a tizzy about this John Mayer quote in Playboy! I read the entire interview… long interview. I mention long because the quote while ignorant, is a very small part of the interview and taken ever so slightly out of context. It seems to me he’s saying he wants to try something new, i.e. stop dating with his dick and maybe date a black woman. Quite offensive way to illustrate his intentions, but that’s the way it reads to me. In that interview, he says the “n” word and a few seemingly offensive things about white women as well. I veer from my beaten path of R&B on occasion and I have a lot of John Mayer’s music. Although I’ve never seen him live, I bought concert tix after seeing his performance at the Michael Jackson Memorial Service. He was GOOD. In light of recent events, for me to show up at his concert, I believe, would be down right uncomfortable. Let me just say, I never dated outside my race until 13 years ago when I went on a date with my husband. The rest is history. Everyone should be so lucky. I don’t think I care about who John Mayer says he dates or not. He’s a man, entitled to express how he feels. I just care about the big picture and how it all affects me. (I’m selfish and shallow and you should probably know this about me, but I digress.)
What’s the big picture?
Well, as part of an interracial couple, this comment may set my kind back a few years; say to around 1990.
How does it affect me?
IT DOESN’T! However, I’ve been trying to figure out a way not to go to the concert because my seats aren’t ideal.* The current brouhaha is as good an excuse as any.
*Ok so when I purchased these tix, I forgot to log on to ticketmaster when they first went on sale so they aren’t the best. FORGOT! One might surmise I’m not THAT broken up about it.
